Wilmslow Town Council will be writing to Cheshire East Council (CEC) to ask them to make it clearer when waste will be collected over Christmas following this years confusion.
Speaking about the Christmas collections at this week's town council meeting, Cllr Jo Milnes said "The refuse collections were horrendous, the information on the (CEC) website was exceptionally confusing.
"I rang three times and was promised on the third time that the extra waste would be taken but it wasn't."
Cllr Ruth McNulty said "I find it extraordinary that in previous years every bin had a schedule plastered to the top of it about when the collections would be. In truth the only people affected this year were those on a Monday collection so I can't work out why a schedule could not have been produced for them."
She added "We need to encourage CEC to put out proper schedules, whether they put these through the doors or publicise where we can get the information from."
Speaking about the information provided this festive season, Cllr Keith Purdom commented "You had to be Sherlock Holmes or Poirot to work it out, it wasn't clear. In the end we just left the bins out all the time and on the day of the winds we had a working party cleaning up the rubbish until 4am."
Town councillors agreed to send a letter to CEC asking them "to make it clearer next year, and ongoing years, when the waste is going to be collected."
