Local offenders. Clearly they knew which house to target and how. With the house being on a main road it would have been easy to recon the house/area without arousing too much suspicion. Without having any further data than the short amount supplied on this page I would say that the burglars were at least semi-experienced, breaking and entering, stealing and then making a getaway with the victim's vehicle. The best way to catch these criminals would be to have high surveillance on all nearby main roads, the vehicle would either be kept, in which case can be caught whilst they're driving it, or they will look to dispose of the vehicle, in which case they will drive to a rural or secluded spot.
