National Trust donates to town project

currant bushes for wilmslow.co

Eleven white currant bushes that have been lovingly grown from cuttings at the National Trust property gardens for the last two years, have been donated to local community project, Incredible Edible Wilmslow.

Incredible Edible volunteer and treasurer, Helena Jones said, "Quarry Bank Mill Apprentice House staff and volunteers have been very generous to our project again and we are tremendously grateful for these delicious donations."

Dot Wilson, Apprentice House Gardens and her volunteers donated mint, oregano and rat-tailed radish at the very beginning of the project earlier this year. These herbs were planted outside Waitrose and the former Wildings corner and have been used frequently by passers by and seen on tours for people who want to find out a bit more about the project and how it is bringing the community of Wilmslow together.

Half of these new fruit plants have been placed outside the front of Wilmslow Station and the other half will be planted just off Browns Lane, where the fruit will be ready to be harvested by passers-by next Summer.

To find out where more local fruit can be found around town you can look at the new fruit map on the Incredible Edible Wilmslow website which is being updated by volunteer Eric Laot, so if you know of any fruit trees or bushes in public areas to add please email Eric

The project is looking for more volunteers to get involved to get even more of Wilmslow looking and tasting great, they meet at the Romany Caravan on the first Sunday of every month, 2pm to garden all the community plots.
