Entries are now open for the 2012 Wilmslow Half Marathon and, whilst the closing date isn't until February, runners are strongly advised to enter as soon as possible because the race is always over subscribed.
The 28th ASICS Wilmslow Half Marathon will take place on Sunday 25th March 2012 at Wilmslow Rugby Club and for the third successive year it has been chosen to host the England Half Marathon Championships.
The added endorsement to this popular race will guarantee that some of the finest runners in the country will again race along the country lanes of Wilmslow and Mobberley to compete for championship honours.
The elite distance runners will be joined by thousands of local runners, many taking part for very personal reasons, who will pound the streets for their own chosen charity.
The official charity chosen to benefit from the 2012 Wilmslow Half Marathon is David Lewis which is dedicated to improving the life experiences of people with complex epilepsy, autism, learning and physical disabilities.
As a registered charity David Lewis provides both residential and day services, supporting around 300 people aged 14 upwards at theirr main site near Alderley Edge and in their community houses in Macclesfield, Holmes Chapel and Middlewich. Your support will allow their people to learn new skills, become independent and achieve their goals.
Organiser Malcolm Fowler said "This year we will be accepting 5,000 entries. The race is usually full by Christmas so runners are advised to enter early."
Entrance is £27 for club members and £29 for those who are not attached to a club. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first five men and women to cross the live with a total prize value £11,000. A bonus of £500 will also be paid to the first man or woman if the course record is broken.
Local runners wishing to run in next year's Wilmslow Half Marathon are advised to get their entries in as soon as possible.
