Family bike ride hailed a success

Families got together to demonstrate the joys of cycling on the inaugural Wilmslow Family Bike Ride last Saturday, 17th September.

Over 20 participants rode the 9 mile route starting at the Transition Wilmslow stand at the Artisan Market and heading through quiet lanes to Mobberley and back to town. They were accompanied by Disley-based champion cyclist Hannah Walker, of the Motorpoint Pro Cycling Team, who was also on hand to present certificates to children completing the ride.

The event was organised by Transition Wilmslow in partnership with CycleWilmslow, the local cycling campaign, whilst Halfords were present to offer cycling advice and a free "Bike Doctor" service.

Rob Sawyer, Chairman of CycleWilmslow said: "The ride was a great success and despite the poor weather forecast we were blessed with glorious sunshine on the ride. I think some people were surprised how easy it is to reach beautiful countryside from the town centre by bike. Hopefully we will organise more rides in the coming months"

Rachel Corrigan of Transition Wilmslow added: " There was lots of interest in our stand throughout the day and the bike ride demonstrated that cycling can be a fun, healthy and a sustainable form of transport. We are very grateful to Halfords for coming along and offering advice and free bike repairs."
