Wilmslow Green Room Theatre hosted what is believed to be the world's first Simultane-a-Thon this weekend raising just under £300 for St Ann's Hospice.

A total of 70 participants, located at various venues around the area, all read the same play at precisely the same time to the delight of passing audiences.

Two of the original cast members from the 1998 Edinburgh Fringe Festival's smash hit comedy 'Teleluvvies', Graham Symmonds and Jo Freeman, performed alongside fellow Green Room actors at Saturday's event.

Press Officer, Hilary Pinnock said "We didn't break any known records but as far as we know, numerous casts reading the same play at multiple locations at precisely the same time was a world's first.

"It was a great promotional event for the Green Room, it rallied our members and hopefully, we'll have attracted new ones as well as gained more interest from the general public in this season's productions that start next month."

Mark Jephcott, organiser of the event, said "We were over the moon to have Jo and Graham back with us. This whole project was so well supported not only by the Green Room's own members, but also by local shops and businesses who were happy to give us permission to act outside their premises.

"One of the most important reasons for putting on this event was to help collect money for a local Hospice, St Ann's Hospice in Cheshire, because our President Sheila Hine sadly passed away several weeks ago and she spent many years of her life carrying out voluntary work for the Hospice."

The Green Room's new season starts next month, details of all the plays can be found in our events calendar.
