Pals takes on Three Peaks Challenge

The THREE PEAKS

A group of ten friends who all grew up in the area will be completing the Three Peaks Challenge this summer to raise money for a local charity.

The group of 25 and 26 year olds know each other through attending Wilmslow High School and whilst many have since moved away they remain a close group of friends.

The Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the highest mountains in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scarfell Pike) and Wales (Snowden) in 24 hours on June 11th. The charity they are supporting is the Time Out Group who enrich the lives of adults with learning disabilities by organising social events and activities in the Alderley Edge, Wilmslow and Handforth area.

Richard Reed told me "Last summer some of our group climbed Snowdon and found the experience so exhilarating that we started thinking about whether we could attempt the Three Peaks Challenge. Many of us are runners and have taken part in sponsored races before, but climbing the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales is the biggest challenge we've faced together and agreed that it's something we wanted to attempt.

"Walking on rough terrain does take it's toll on the legs, so we're all training in our own individual way by going to the gym, running or cycling and recently we climbed Scarfell Pike.

"We were aware of the Time Out Group through being friends with Megan Mills, the daughter of the charity's founder Sue Mills. By completing the Three Peaks Challenge we hope to raise money for Time Out and promote the good work they do enriching the lives of adults with learning disabilities."

The group is made up of: Richard Blomfield, Adam Clarke, Nial Evans, Tom Kirkland, Tom Levermore, Joe Mellor, James Read, Richard Read, Matthew Royle and Tom Spawton.
