Man charged with making an explosive remains in custody

A Wilmslow man who has been charged with making an explosive for an unlawful purpose made his first appearance at Chester Crown Court yesterday, Wednesday April 27th.

Following the preliminary hearing, Andrew James Speakman of Beech Lane will remain in custody and is due to appear in court again on July 5th for a Plea and Case Management hearing.

Mr Speakman, 44, has not entered any pleas as yet but the defendant is expected to do so at the next hearing.

Police were called to the house on Beech Lane at 9.31pm on Thursday, 9th March, after local residents reported hearing an explosion.

As a precautionary measure occupants of 12 neighbouring properties were evacuated to Wilmslow Leisure Centre while a search of the premises was carried out. A small quantity of chemicals were found at the property.
