A campaign to boost recycling rates in an area of Wilmslow will be discussed by residents on Tuesday, 1st March.

Lacey Green Residents' Association has played a key role in an on-going scheme, being run by Cheshire East Council and Groundwork Cheshire, to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.

Recent research conducted in the Wilmslow area looked at how much residual waste arrived at depots following collection rounds. The rounds in the Lacey Green area returned an amount of residual waste, to be sent to landfill, which presented some room for improvement. To tackle this, a campaign was drawn up, last September, to cut this waste. Residents will discuss the impact of the campaign with officers from Cheshire East Council and Groundwork Cheshire on Tuesday at The Pavilion. It is also hoped a public event can be arranged to mark the end of the campaign, in April.

Cheshire East Councillor Don Stockton, Cabinet support member with responsibility for environmental services, said: "I would like to thank the residents of Lacey Green and the residents' association for their continued support and input. Hopefully, the meeting later this month can kick-off plans to mark the end of the campaign with a fitting celebration. I would also like to thank the children of Lacey Green Primary School for embracing this campaign with enthusiasm. They have taken part in composting workshops, identified areas where more school waste can be recycled and even started growing their own fruits and vegetables."

James Kerr, project manager for Groundwork Cheshire, said: "We have learnt a huge amount from Lacey Green residents over the course of the project. I would like to thank all of the residents who have taken the time to answer the survey, or who have taken part in discussions at the residents' group meetings. We are now nearing the end of our work and we hope that as many people as possible from Lacey Green can join us in celebrating helping to reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfill."

Local residents and partner agencies will also discuss and solve other local issues affecting the residents of Lacey Green, such as highways plans to improve parking and community policing topics.

All residents are welcome to attend the meeting and there will be time at the end to discuss any personal problems directly with the agencies present. For more information please contact PCSO Sarah Stanley on 0845 458 6374 or by email. The meeting will be held at the Sports Pavilion, Off Clough Avenue, Lacey Green at 7pm.
