Organised by Xtra Mile Events, the fifth Wilmslow Triathlon is now open for entries.

The organisers are hoping for an even better race than last year. The triathlon is expected to attract over 500 competitors on 8th May, and because this race has been full to capacity in previous years, competitors need to be quick to reserve their place.

Starting with a 400 metre swim in the indoor pool at Wilmslow Leisure Centre, the triathletes will then head out on a 23.8km cycle ride through mainly flat Cheshire countryside and finally, there is a 6.7km run along mainly quiet Wilmslow roads, passing over the River Bollin.

The Wimslow Triathlon is suitable for novices and serious athletes, alike. It is particularly suited to beginners, as the distances are relatively short, and most people complete the event in under two hours.

Gemma Herbertson, from Xtra Mile Events said "The focus of the event is on encouraging people of all ages and abilities to participate, have fun and just do their personal best.

"Many people also take part as a relay team – where two or three people share each of the disciplines. This can be a great introduction to the sport, and a great way to share the excitement and the fun."

There are prizes for winners in age categories from 18 to 85+, as well as novice category prizes for those just starting out in the sport, and staggered starts mean that competitors will be racing against athletes of similar standards - from beginners all the way to elites.

Relay teams and competitors looking to raise money for charity are always encouraged and this year Xtra Mile Events have nominated Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, Epilepsy Research UK and the RNLI as charities that competitors might like to consider fundraising for.

Entrance is £39 and £49 for relay teams. The closing date for entry is May 2nd and the race is open to those aged 16+.
