Styal Estate needs your votes for funding

The Bovril Great Outdoors Revival is offering people the opportunity to vote for funds to be given to National Trust projects, one of which is the Quarry Bank Mill & Styal Estate pathway upgrade.

The Bovril Great Outdoors Revival have teamed up with the National Trust to help revive beauty spots in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, that need a bit of work to maintain their beauty, and secondly to rejuvenate areas that need help in the gardens and land around beautiful properties.

From a path over the fells or a shelter from the elements on the Fens, to repairing a dry stone wall in the garden of a beautiful old estate, Bovril are letting the public decide where £100,000 goes to support the National Trust. Votes need to be cast by 31st Dec 2010 and The Styal project is currently in 11th place so needs more support.

The Styal Estate is set in over 300 acres of the River Bollin valley, and is an unspoilt piece of countryside that has changed little over the last century. It offers good access on foot along a range of paths and bridges that take you through mature mixed woodland of beech, oak, larch and exotic species such as Californian Redwood.

The route into and through the Northern Woods desperately requires upgrading to meet the needs of visitors today. The project would involve reinvigorating the existing path and putting in, down one part with a steep gradient, a zigzag path to cut out the gradient and make for a safe ascent and decent for all visitors.

The project involves purchase of materials, hire of equipment, transporting materials to the site, plus the construction work. Much of the work will be carried out by volunteers from the local community, including villagers from Styal.
