Sixth form students at Wilmslow High School are celebrating after another successful year of A Level and BTEC results with 54% of all GCE A2 results at AB grades and 58% of all A2 and BTEC results at AB grades.

A 98% pass rate was achieved overall with 25 students achieving 3 A or A* grades at GCE A2 and 22 students achieving the equivalent of 3 A grades in the BTEC Diploma. 19% of the entire year group, 47 students, achieved the equivalent of 3 A grades or better and 40 A* grades were achieved by 29 students.

Headteacher, Mrs Gill Bremner, commented "On behalf of the staff and governors of Wilmslow High School I am yet again delighted to congratulate our students on the outstanding Advanced Level and BTEC National Diploma results they have produced this year. It is particularly pleasing that so many students were able to demonstrate the very high level of learning they have achieved with so many passes at A* grade.

"Members of staff have enjoyed challenging our most able students to achieve at the highest level and it is, naturally, a delight to congratulate so many students moving on to challenging courses at elite institutions. However, Wilmslow High School is a comprehensive school and a community that goes well beyond helping students to achieve the best qualifications possible.

"We value particularly the contribution that these sixth form students have made to the life of the school through supporting the learning and welfare of younger students, assisting in the running of extracurricular activities, representing the school in sporting and other events such as the Model UN General Assembly, Young Enterprise, and the charity fund-raising events such as the Fashion Show and the Christie's Concert, planned and run by the students themselves.

"We wish them well in the exciting challenges and opportunities that life will bring, while they will no doubt join me in expressing thanks for the continuing support of their parents and the hard work and commitment provided by school staff over their years of secondary education."

A spokesperson from Cheshire East Council has just announced that "Sixth formers in Cheshire East have yet again recorded an outstanding set of A-level results."

With all schools’ results but one now confirmed, projections are that Cheshire East’s 1,600 students have recorded a 97.6 per cent pass rate - identical to the national figure, which is one per cent higher than the previous year.

Provisional figures show that sixth formers achieved an average points score of 817, compared with 751 recorded on results day last year.

More than a quarter of students achieved grades of A*, introduced this year, and A.

Councillor Hilda Gaddum, Cabinet member with responsibility for children and families, said: “Each year it becomes harder to improve on previous levels of achievement, yet I am delighted to report that Cheshire East students appear to have done just that.

“This exceptional performance is a just reward for the hard work, dedication and enthusiasm shown by students and staff. My congratulations go to them all."
