Wilmslow Poppy Appeal raises over £10,000

This year's Wilmslow Poppy Appeal raised over £10,366.36.

Once again, the local schools made a big contribution with nearly £3500 having been raised by local primary schools in Wilmslow and Handforth along with Wilmslow High School.

The remaining money was raised in local shops, community venues and Sainsbury's supermarket where the poppy appeal stall was manned every day during the week leading up to Remembrance Sunday which involved approximately 24 volunteers including representatives from 1st Wilmslow Scouts.

Shan Bristow, Wilmslow Poppy Appeal Organiser said "This is a splendid total, resulting from wonderful contributions throughout the town: from all the schools, 30 other community venues, including shops, pubs, churches, leisure centre etc."

1st Wilmslow Scout Group volunteer Georgina Dunn said, "thank you to everyone who supported the poppy appeal fundraising at 1st Wilmslow Scout Group, it was very humbling to hear of a few local stories from people in Sainsbury's who stopped by to tell of family members who fought in the First and Second World Wars, and the importance of Remembrance Day."

In addition there was a Poppy Appeal table at Waitrose, figures for which are not included in the above total.
