Charity Christmas Card Shop founder presented with prestigious High Sheriff Award

The High Sheriff of Cheshire, Dennis Dunn MBE JP DL, officially opened the 52nd annual Combined Charities Christmas Card Shop in Wilmslow on Tuesday, 31st October.

The High Sheriff met with founder Sheila Hallas MBE and congratulated her and representatives from the charities on raising over £6 million to date and awarded Sheila and all the shop volunteers the prestigious High Sheriff Award.

The pop-up shops are volunteer-run with 100% of card sales go directly back to the participating charities.

The High Sheriff toured the Wilmslow shop, met with volunteers and customers, and purchased some of the first items of the season.

High Sheriff Dunn said. "Through the efforts of its volunteers and the support of customers, it has raised an astounding amount of money for both national and local charities and made a meaningful difference in countless lives.

"I congratulate Sheila Hallas and all involved on this tremendous achievement by presenting you with the High Sheriff Award and wish them continued success."

Sheila Hallas, who founded the shop in 1971, said "Today we are excited to welcome the High Sheriff to one of our shops and show him what we do. We are overwhelmed to receive the 'High Sheriff Award', which was a fantastic surprise. Our aim is to help as many charities as possible by providing them funds they might not otherwise receive.

"The shop's success is a testament to the compassion and community spirit of the people of Cheshire. We are deeply grateful for the support and goodwill we've received over the years."

The Wilmslow shop, located up at the library, is open until 9th December during library hours selling a wide selection of Christmas Cards from 26 charities carry along with wrapping paper, tags, Christmas gifts and novelties.
