Wilmslow residents welcome parking scheme

New parking restrictions have been introduced in areas of Wilmslow in a move that was prompted by local residents who live close to the town centre. They asked Cheshire East Council (CEC) to take action to restrict long-stay parking which prevented residents from parking close to their homes. After consulting with residents and town centre workers, CEC has implemented limited waiting times on a number of roads.

Local resident, Ken Watson, of Edgeway in Wilmslow said: “The new parking restrictions in our area have been a huge success, completely eliminating the all-day parking we have suffered the past eight years. It had become an environmental disaster. “

“The restrictions also resolved a safety problem we had in Holly Road South of having to drive on the wrong side of the road into a blind bend. The Highways Officers and Councillors have done an excellent job in resolving this problem.”

David Roper of Holly Road South, Wilmslow, added: “My wife and I have been really pleased since the parking restrictions came in. For one thing we have a lot of leaves falling on Holly Rd South, and the council leaf sweeping truck couldn't do its job.”

Cheshire East Councillor, Rod Menlove, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Environmental Services said: “These restrictions have significantly improved the quality of life of those living close to the town centre. The council provides plenty of cost effective parking for town centre shoppers, visitors and workers in Wilmslow; this includes free on-street parking for limited periods, so displacement of vehicles from outside these residencies should not present any problems.

“The Schemes will be patrolled by our Civil Enforcement Officers to make sure they work for residents and are not abused.”
