Police request patience for Wilmslow Half Marathon

Police Officers are asking drivers to be patient about delays on the roads while runners compete in the Wilmslow Half Marathon. The race is on Sunday March 28th. Entries closed weeks ago when they reached the 4,800 ceiling figure.

Derek Griffiths, the Cheshire Police Eastern Area Events Officer said, "The safety of the runners and other people using the roads will be our first consideration. Some delays are inevitable. We ask drivers to bear this in mind when they plan their journeys and to be patient if they are affected by road closures."

The race begins at 10.30 a.m from the Wilmslow Rugby Club. Some of the worst road congestion is likely to be on the A538 Altrincham Road near the club before the race begins. Entrants will be arriving at the ground from 9 a.m to 10.15 a.m.

Altrincham Road will be closed from its junction with Kings Road to Morley Green Road from 10.15 until approximately 10.45 when the race will have passed this section. Another main road affected is the B5085 Town Lane in Mobberley. It and Hall Lane, the adjoining section of the B5085, will be closed from 10.30.

Derek Griffiths says, "It will remain shut until the majority of runners have passed. This is well into the race so that may take some time. We will re-open roads as soon as it is safe to do so. We ask all drivers to co-operate."
