roadclosed

The slip road from Dean Row Road to the A34 bypass will be closed for two weeks from Saturday 28th July to Sunday 12th August.

This work was funded as part of the new Bollin Park development on Adlington Road. It was supposed to happen BEFORE the development was built. Yes, the same one that went on sale in November 2015.

This is another great example of the gap between Cheshire East Planning decisions and reality. They promise improvements to mitigate their decision to approve major developments, then forget them once the spot light of publicity has passed.

Many thanks to Cllr Toni Roberts of Residents of Wilmslow for all her efforts to keep reminding them of their promise and for getting CE to finally honour it by making this greatly needed road improvement.

this is needed and its the right time to do it while the kids are on holidays

BUT, two weeks? I am no civil engineer but there is a full sized tree there [on left going down onto the A34], and a junction box [which I assume is for lighting electrics], to be removed [box will be resited]

It will be a miracle if its completed in two weeks.

Two months might be more realistic if the A555 is anything to go by.

If that is completed in 2 weeks. As in the film The Battle Of Britain you can call me Herman

I agree that two weeks looks hopelessly optimistic but the comments above prompt a further thought.
I had not realised that this road widening was linked to the Bollin Park development. That it is gives further weight to the comment I am making.
All traffic coming from Bollin Park to the new wider road will need to pass the prospective development of 161 houses at Heathfield Farm. This development is due to start imminently and continue for 4 years.
At the point the traffic passes Heathfield Farm, it will be passing down the route of the children going to Dean Oaks school.
And now the point I want to make - if this road widening is to have any impact, there must be a complete prohibition of contractors' vehicles parking on Dean Road Road. It is a big site and the developer should be forced to make sure all vehicles are kept within the site boundaries while construction is in progress.
WTC should be making the necessary approaches to the police and CEC now to make sure residents in the Summerfields / Colshaw (and, indeed, Bollin Park) developments are not faced with 4 years of problems.

Jon,

I have already sought and had assurance from Taylor Wimpey that all vehicles associated with the Heathfield Farm development will be accommodated on site.

Toni,

Thanks for this info. I live close enough to carry out a daily compliance check.

I hope we don't need to correspondence on this issue in the future.

However, I am afraid I have little confidence in the ability of the developer to control their subcontractors. I hope those who gave you their assurances know that they will face a daily challenge if they fail to deliver.

What is interesting, is that there is going to be an alteration at the Summerfield roundabout to "improve" the flow, but bear in mind one gives way to vehicles on the right, ie from the south, and with several years, with 170 houses at Heathfield and at least 3 cars per house, the grid lock will be as big, if not bigger, and also do not forget the road works on Welland road, Handforth, which will have a slowing effect. Also do not forget the Congleton by pass will increase the flow.

This at the same time as a new mini roundabout in Handforth. These planners want locking away.

What bothers me is how do we get on and off the A34 as Handforth is already a issue and its a large diversion to drive to Wilmslow to come back again.

The so-called planners at CEC really don't like those of us living in this little corner of Cheshire do they? Thank goodness I work from home and don't have to commute as a lot of other poor residents do. Its already so bad around Handforth that I won't leave the house between 3.45 and 5.45pm when rush 'hour' traffic brings every road in the area to a standstill.

.....and the start date has already gone back a week to 4th August so with that 'adjustment' just for starters, any flying pig 2 weeks to completion proposed by these project planning chumps isn't worth a fig. it's pathetic.
Early apologies if I have to eat my words on 19th August....

Warning to those who need to pass this junction.

I came out of Summerfields at 8.45 am this morning, traveling towards the traffic lights at the junction of Dean Row Road and Manchester Road.

I joined the traffic flow immediately behind a standard size Eddie Stobart lorry - not an unusual vehicle on this stretch of road.

POINT 1
The closure of the slip road extends onto the roundabout and 50m towards Pinewood Road. The lane narrows dramatically, especially on the roundabout. The lorry struggled to get around the roundabout. It only did it by going dead slow.

POINT 2
Dean Row Road narrows significantly at the railway bridge. Two lorries (or two buses) could not pass on the bridge. Once again, the lorry was compelled to proceed at dead slow pace.

POINT 3
Bewtween the railway bridge and the traffic lights at Manchester Road the residents, quite legally, park on both sides of the road. Once again, two lorries could not pass and where there is parking on both sides of the road, the lorry struggled to get through.

POINT 4
The left turn at the traffic lights is tight for a lorry. To make the turn the lorry had to move significantly to the right, partially blocking the opposite traffic flow in front of Halliwell Jones. This was made worse because the lights turned to red before the lorry could complete the turn. The oncoming traffic had to drive on pavement to pass.

All in all, on a very quiet morning, I was significantly delayed. Anyone looking to make this journey on Monday morning should, if they can, avoid Den Row Road entirely (although maybe not down towards Handforth station if the roundabout work has begun) or leave themselves significant extra time.

On my return, I also noticed that the slip road work has extended onto the north bound A 34. The roundabout on the north bound carriageway is down to one lane. Those using the A 34 towards Manchester will be well used to delay, but it is probably going to get worse.

I dream of driving away from home and not being faced by roadworks - it looks like remaking a dream for the foreseeable future.

Manchester Road mayhem and it's only a weekend

Surely Cheshire East could have

(1) Anticipated the problems for drivers traveling north and wanting to turn right into Dean Row Rd towards Summerfields Village and adjusted the time on the traffic light filter ?

(2) Got the construction crew to work late to speed the work up ?

Heaven help us all on Monday morning....

12th August - this slip road is now OPEN and I am amazed that it was possibly done ahead of schedule and therefore ON TIME with no delays. BRILLIANT!
