Fire crews were called to deal with two peat bog fires on Sunday, 3rd June.

One fire engine from Wilmslow attended the first incident at Lindow Peat Bog just before 7am.

On arrival the crew discovered two pockets of fire smouldering in a peat bog. Firefighters used water and beaters to extinguish the fire, which measured approximately four metres by two metres. They were in attendance for around an hour.

Then just after 1.30pm two fire engines attended, one from Wilmslow and one from Ellesmere Port, a second incident.

On arrival the crews discovered that the fire measured approximately twenty metres by five metres.

Speaking about the incidents, a spokesperson from Wilmslow Fire Station said "We were back at Lindow Peat Bog today, unlike the earlier incident which was caused by the weather conditions, this one was down to an unattended camp fire."

Firefighters used a main jet, water back packs and beaters to extinguish the fire. They also used shovels and spades to dig out the affected area.

The crews then damped the area down to make it safe and were in attendance for around two hours.

A fire engine from Ellesmere Port attended! Where were the local appliances? What would happen in a major incident? How many fire engines are there in Cheshire?

Why Ellesmere Port, surely there must have been one closer even in South Manchester. How long did it take it to get to Wilmslow.
