Plans to build a three storey extension on the end of an existing row of shop units have been approved.

Permission has been granted for the extension at 20 Plumley Road, Handforth which will consist of a shop at ground level and a two bedroom flat on the two upper floors.

Handforth Parish Council objected to the plans raising concerns regarding the lack of off-road parking at this location and the impact of construction traffic at this site.

One letter of objection was also received which raised concerns about the lack of space for the extension and the extra parking that will be required.

The planning officer concluded "The application site is situated within an existing shopping area within Handforth, therefore in principle the erection of a new shop with flats above is acceptable as it is considered to be sustainable development. The proposal would also provide an upper floor dwelling within a sustainable location within a key service centre of the borough. Such proposal would make a small but positive contribution to the Council's housing land supply."
