Shortly after 8pm on Saturday, 18th November, police officers were called to reports of a number of stray horses on Styal Road, near the junction of Old Altrincham Road.
Officers attended and ten horses were found at the side of Hollin Lane.
After locating the animals officers issued a social media appeal to the public to help trace the owners of the horses, or to find temporary accommodation for the animals.
A police spokesperson said "Within minutes of issuing the appeal officers received several offers from generous members of the public offering to look after the animals, and, at approximately 9.30pm the owners of the horses were identified.
"The horses have since been returned to their owners, who have been given words of advice."
