Local students ace their A levels

In addition to those attending Wilmslow High School and Alderley Edge School for Girls, a clever group of students from Wilmslow and Alderley Edge who go to schools a bit further afield are celebrating their impressive A Level results.

A local quartet of King's School students were thrilled with their results on Thursday, 17th August. Jack Lucas, from Alderley Edge, got AAB and will read English Language and Linguistics at York; Kate Poyser, from Wilmslow got AAB and will read Business Management at Liverpool; Olivia Phillips, from Wilmslow got A*AB and will read Psychology at York; while Finlay Calder, got AAA and will now read Mathematics at Newcastle University.

A Wilmslow student from Manchester Grammar School is also celebrating fantastic A-level results. Kamran Sharifi, 18, was awarded 2A*s, 1A and a Distinction One. He is is now off to study Philosophy and Linguistics at St Hilda's College, Oxford.

He said: "I'm feeling very happy and slightly relieved. I think my mum has been stressing a little more than I have so I'm glad she can relax today.

"I'm so pleased I've got my place at Oxford and I'm excited to start my studies there in October."

Earlier this year, Kamran won first prize in the advanced category of the 14th HSBC / British Council Mandarin Chinese Speaking Competition Final, held at the British Museum in London, making him the best young non-native Mandarin Chinese speaker in the UK.
