An annual open garden's day was a huge success on Saturday, 24th June, raising a record amount for a Wilmslow based charity.

The Trustees of Wilmslow Wells for Africa are delighted with the splendid result of this year's Gardens Day, which raised over £14,000.

Grazyna Moore said "With a record £14.400 being raised on the day, and hopefully some late donations, it will allow the charity to move forward on two new projects in Uganda, providing boreholes in villages that have had no water previously. Working with over 16 African countries."

Visitors were able to tour nineteen local gardeners across Wilmslow, Handforth and Alderley Edge including wildlife havens, restful contemplative gardens, cottage gardens, meadows, formal, contemporary and productive gardens with orchards and veg plots.

Wilmslow Wells is run entirely by volunteers and 99.2% of income is spent directly on projects such as simple wells, boreholes and rainwater harvesting equipment. Since the mid 1980's, they have raised over £1 million; funded 190 projects (many involving multiple wells) and spent less than £9,000 on running costs.
