Plans for apartment block on site of former dentist refused

aprtments

Planning permission to demolish a vacant dental surgery and house on Alderley Road and replace them with a three storey building containing 21 apartments, along with a six bed detached house has been refused.

Members of the Northern Planning Committee decided today (Wednesday 8th February) to reject the proposal by 11 votes to 1.

The Planning Officer recommended the plans for refusal due to the height of the building and its proximity to the road.

Wilmslow Town Council's Planning Committee had previously recommend refusal of the apartment block on the grounds of the design being out-of-character with the surrounding buildings and being too far forward of the existing building line. Twenty-one letters of objection were also received.

Obviously Pete is not involved! With the 40 or so at the Gulag, 10 on the dangerous corner of Chapel Lane - Bedells Lane, Adlington Road and all the other little "developments" surely Wilmslow must be close to the 900 houses needed by 2030!!!!
What will end up being there is almost anyones guess but my guess is that pockets are being lined somewhere.

The obvious thing to do is convert the existing building into apartments. The building in its present format is in keeping with surrounds, and not unattractive and there are enough parking spaces. High rise is not appropriate for this area.

Good decision; the proposed over-bearing building was only a couple of metres from the two posts in the photo.

Wish the developers, planners and the newspapers would get their information right! Just to let everyone know this was a doctors consulting room, not a dental surgery.
Mr Peter Leyland is still happily seeing patients next door at Westgate Dental Practice at 75, Alderley Rd; thanks to all the patients that have contacted us to check WE ARE STILL HERE.

Many thanks for pointing out the error Jacquie. Sorry for this, the planning application is listed on the Cheshire East Council website as "Proposal: Demolition of vacant dental surgery (77) and House (79), and construction of 21 Apartments and 6 bed detached house." http://bit.ly/2lRxlML
