Handforth residents and businesses urged to 'Come and let rip!'

Handforth residents are being invited to have their say on the future of the village by contributing to the Handforth Neighbourhood Plan which will influence future development.

The Neighbourhood Planning Group wants residents, businesses, employees and community groups to suggest how Handforth should develop to meet future needs.

In order to enable them to have their say three public meetings are being held. The first will be held in the Youth Centre on Monday 30th January, the second will be at Wilmslow Grange School on Tuesday 7th February and the third at Oakmere on Thursday 9th February. All meetings will take place from 7pm to 8.30pm.

People are also invited to go along to have a chat with the Neighbourhood Planning Group which are based at the Youth Centre, their secretary is the Parish Clerk Mr Ashley Dawson who can be reached on 01625 523330.

The meetings and discussion sessions will help shape the creation of the draft Neighbourhood Plan.

Residents, businesses, employees and community groups are also being urged not to miss the opportunity to have their views heard by completing a questionnaire which will be sent out shortly and should be completed by 17th February.

The Neighbourhood Planning Group has put together the following list of Potential issues facing Handforth:

A555 through Handforth and A34 Coppice Way to Dean Row roundabout: Speed restriction to 50mph to achieve noise reduction?

Village centre: Improvements to Paddock/shops/business premises/car parks. Pedestrian crossing at Wilmslow Road and Station Road junction.

Station: Footpath retaining wall. Platform access for disabled. Car park.

Library: Installation of drinks machine, snack machine and public toilets?

Medical centres: Expansion to accommodate new housing developments.

Consequences of potential estate off Sagars Road/Clay Lane: Access routes including improved underpass to Handforth Dean and from A555. New primary school and new secondary school or extensions to Wilmslow High School. New medical centre. Bus route via Coppice Way to station car park (field by youth centre?). Traffic light control A34/Coppice Way roundabout.

Consequences of Coppice Way Care Village/new estate behind Hill Drive: Traffic light control A34/Coppice Way roundabout. Coppice Way pelican crossing from footpath 91 to Handforth Dean.

Consequences of Little Stanneylands new estate: Access and additional traffic.

Consequences of new estate on Seashell Trust site: How can aggravation of traffic congestion be avoided?

Spath Lane and Knowle Park Estates: Car parking problems and community centres. Development of Knowle House site?

Park Improvements: Meriton Road, Stanley Hall and Parsonage estate parks.

Provision of more social housing.

Youth centre improvements.

Protection of beauty spots and historic buildings.

Maintaining a band of greenfield between Handforth and Greater Manchester.

The Handforth Planning Group say this is not intended to be exhaustive and they would welcome further ideas.
