What a difference a year makes!

A year ago, Churches Together in Wilmslow worked with with Wilmslow Wells for Africa for their Harvest appeal.

From collecting pennies in jam jars and raising awareness at the Wilmslow Artisan Market, they raised an £11,000 which enabled seven hand-dug wells to be constructed in Uganda.

Now a year on, 3,000 more people no longer have to collect their water from swamps and contaminated open wells as they now have a clean water source.

Chairman Jenny Gibbs said "So what difference did the year bring? Love, joy and life to the people of Teso.

"And what difference could another year make to the 3,750 people in the district of Ramogo in Burkina Faso? For the first time six months ago, Wilmslow Wells for Africa funded a project in this very poor and little known country. Ranked 183 out of 187 in the UN Development Programme (2014), this small landlocked country suffers from drought and desertification. Our intervention means this area will now have a well drilled to find water."

Local residents are invited to join Wilmslow Wells for Africa to celebrate these and other successes at their AGM on October 17th at 8.00pm at Wilmslow Methodist Church on Water Lane.

Jenny added "Join with us and with our partners in these works in order to celebrate the difference your support has made to so many people - in just one year."

Omagoro and Okeri villages in Uganda celebrate the completion of the wells.
