Young stars put on fabulous summer performances

Over fifty children from a local musical theatre group delighted over 250 people at their summer performances at Mottram St Andrew Village Hall.

The 4-7 year olds in miniPYPS performed a musical play called 'Pirates' which saw Oliver Aston and Lucy Walton give confident performances in the the lead roles, Blackbeard and Molly.

Lucy and her fellow girl pirates entertained the audience with their singing and dancing of 'Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend'.

Ian Hunt commented "The young cast showed great enthusiasm and talent. It was obvious to all how much they enjoyed taking part."

Meanwhile the juniors, 7-11 yr olds, performed 'Pirates of the Curry Bean', a funny musical play written by Craig Hawes.

Ian added "The talented cast had great fun with this and there were some excellent characterisations, too many to mention individually. They showed really good stage awareness, comedy timing, acting and singing."

A dozen children from surrounding high schools also gave up their time over the weekend to help with the makeup, props and sound - furthering their knowledge in stage craft.

Director Sally Hunt said "We were all so proud of them. Performing Arts is a wonderful way for children to grow in confidence and to learn that after commitment and effort there is a wonderful feeling of achievement whilst having fun at the same time."
