A new youth organisation has been set up in Wilmslow to help 11 to 18 year olds live life to the full.

The Wilmslow Youth Project is run by Life Church Wilmslow and Wilmslow United Reformed Church (URC) and was launched after a study exploring the needs of local young people, and looking at how the churches might meet some of those needs as part of their work in the community.

Wilmslow Youth is predominantly working with Wilmslow High School, and there are four different streams to what they're providing:

Pastoral care – They are located in the Wellbeing Hub at Wilmslow High School, offering additional support for students. They also have a detached youth work team on the streets on Friday evenings during the summer.

Safe socialising spaces – From October they will be making URC facilities available as a youth space, where they will run after school clubs and youth clubs. They are also opening a drop in lunch club at the school in September.

Faith based activities – As a church based project they are organising activities for local Christian young people - such as youth services and events.

Volunteering opportunities – They are aiming to encourage and facilitate youth participation with local charities and community action groups.

Youth worker Matthew Williamson told wilmslow.co.uk "The project is in its early stages, and some of the activities won't be launched until the new term. The proper launch is in September, but we're starting bits of the work now and beginning the process of letting young people and their parents know who we are."
