Local residents and Community groups are being invited to give their views on the vision for the North Cheshire Garden Village.

The ultimate design standards of any new development will be informed by a Design Code, to ensure the highest possible quality, exemplar development. As a first step, Hemingway Design, led by acclaimed designer Wayne Hemingway, have been commissioned to produce a 'vision' document for the village.

Cheshire East Council's Development Company, Engine of the North (EotN), is promoting a new residential and community development, known as North Cheshire Garden Village (NCGV). The proposed site is near to Handforth Dean, between the A555 and the A34.

As part of the process, Engine of the North is devising a Design Code, to ensure a development of the highest possible quality and would like to know what people think about a number of elements which make up the Design Code.

An initial information event, held in March, was well-attended and community engagement continues until September. Two more information events will be held later this month.

The first will be held on Saturday 25 June at Honford Hall, South Acre Drive, Wilmslow, SK9 3HN between 11am and 4pm.

Then on Monday 27 June between 2pm and 7pm at the Pinewood Hotel, Wilmslow Road, SK9 3LF.

Councillor Jamie Macrae, Chairman of Engine of the North said: "The North Cheshire Garden Village could be an exemplar development for the area and back in March we began to discuss with the community the design quality of the proposals. We are really keen to engage as many local people as possible in the debate and really want to know what your views are in shaping the proposal."

Councillor Macrae added: "Our ambition is to create a new innovative approach to residential development creating sustainable communities within a quality environment. We also wish to ensure that any development complements the existing surrounding communities. As a first step, we've commissioned Hemingway Design, led by acclaimed designer Wayne Hemingway, to produce a 'vision' document for the village.

"Therefore we are asking residents to give us their thoughts on what kind of development North Cheshire Garden Village could be, by commenting on the 'vision' document. The 'vision' document will then form the basis of the Design Code which will maintain development standards for any new settlement."

Initial ideas for this new village include:

  • By creating a new village, we can also bring improved facilities and community infrastructure to the area. Schools, health facilities, nurseries, community centres, play areas and sports facilities available to everyone.
  • Providing space for new businesses, including shops and cafes. This will help to create job opportunities in the area within a sustainable environment.
  • Supporting all ages and all backgrounds, by providing starter homes, family homes, retirement and older person's homes.
  • A sustainable community with enhanced transport links and with space for trees, planting and landscaping.
  • By building this community, we can take the pressure off other towns and villages locally, which could otherwise face 'infill' and over development.
  • A piecemeal approach to development would also prevent the opportunity to bring forward significant improvements to infrastructure and community facilities which are proposed within this scheme.
