Choosing a winner was no piece of cake

As part of Wilmslow Food and Drink Week students from Wilmslow High School took part in a cake off competition.

Pupils from Years 7 to 9 presented their own interpretation of Food & Drink Week in cake form and their amazing entries were judged at Trukitchen on Saturday, 19th March.

The impressive creations were judged by Sarah Bridge of Wilmslow Cookery School and Charles Banford of Peter Herd who scored them on their appearance, make-up and taste.

After much deliberation the judges were unable to split them so joint first place was awarded to Olivia Braybrook with her 'Wilmslow Coffee Culture' and Jack Loynton with his 'Watermelon Cake'.

Second place went to Isabelle Flannagan for her 'Basket of Fruit' and Milly Oliver came third with her 'Subway Roll'.

Speaking about the entries Charles Banford said "All of them were really very good. They were terrific. The amount of effort, the way the cakes are made up is very good and the diversity of the looks.

"You have also got to take into consideration these are youngsters, we could stick the winners in a shop and people would order them."

Miriam Booler, Food Technology Teacher at Wilmslow High School, commented "They have put in so much effort. I'm so impressed. They have been planning it for a couple of weeks and working on them all week. There is so much attention to detail."
