Town Council remains committed to funding CCTV cameras

Wilmslow Town Council will to continue to fund the maintenance of CCTV cameras in the town for the next three years.

It was agreed at their meeting on Monday, 18th January, that the Town Council will pay a fixed price of £16,650 per year for the next three years.

The cost covers the nine surveillance cameras in Wilmslow town centre so they are monitored, maintained and replaced where necessary during that period. Cameras in Council owned car parks remain fully funded by Cheshire East Council.

The Town Council has provided funding previously for the financial years 2014/15 and 2015/16 at the request of Cheshire East Council, to help them save money. If the Town Council refused the funding then the cameras would no longer be monitored or replaced when broken.

Councillor Keith Purdom, Chairman of Wilmslow Town Council said "I am pleased that the full WTC voted unanimously to renew our commitment to support the funding of cctv in Wilmslow. This is something the police tells us is helpful and our retailers and the night economy also welcomes.

"The deterrent factor was probably the single most important part of the Councillors debate at the Council meeting and subject to an agreement with CEC to hold the cost fixed for three years we voted to make a longer term commitment ."

Sensible decision Cllrs. With the announced falling crime figures, the installation of a new call centre operating system, cost savings can be passed on to residents and businesses.
