Volunteers demonstrate lifesaving techniques

The Wilmslow branch of the British Heart Foundation and Healthy Hearts recently staged CPR demonstrations at Handforth Dean retail park.

For the demonstrations, paramedics performed resuscitation techniques on dummies and explained how to apply the DRSABC procedure (Danger, Response, Shout, Airway, Breathing and CPR) to save lives. Their demonstrations included the use of defibrillators; showing how the machines talk an operator through the steps needed to apply the pads that provide shocks that can restart the heart.

Brian Stanford-Smith commented "First responders expect to reach a scene within eight minutes of a 999 call but it is what happens in the time before help arrives that is crucial to survival. It is estimated that half of the UK 10,000 lives lost last year from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) could have been saved if they had received immediate attention."

The Wilmslow Branch of BHF and Healthy Hearts are planning a series of half-day courses taking place in Wilmslow over the next few months. Readers can apply to register for these free courses by ringing 01625 539729 and leaving their name and telephone number.

Just been on the heartsafe.org.uk website to see where defibs are located locally. Alarmingly, this indicates there aren't any near us but I know this isn't true. Who is responsible for putting these on the website?
