With Halloween creeping up on us Cheshire Police has launched Operation Treacle to remind people to act responsibly and stay safe whilst enjoying the evening.
Not everybody enjoys being frightened or called upon by different ghosts, ghouls and witches during the spookiest night of the year.
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Roberts said, "We don't want to stop people having a good time, we just want you to behave in a responsible manner and remember not everyone in your community wants to participate.
"If there is a clear sign, such as our 'No Trick or Treaters' poster, or no pumpkins outside a house please respect the fact that the person inside doesn't want to be disturbed."
Historically, Cheshire Police receives an increase in calls relating to anti-social behaviour. During Halloween last year, over 1,600 calls were received with 293 relating to anti-social behaviour.
ACC Roberts added, "Anti-social behaviour is unacceptable whatever the time of year. However, Halloween does see the number of calls we receive regarding anti-social behaviour increase. Our message is clear – parents be aware of what your children are up to at Halloween. Accompany children trick or treating rather than letting them go on their own to make sure they're safe and not being a nuisance to others.
"I'd also like to take this opportunity to reassure residents who may feel distressed about the night's events. Officers will be there when and where you need them. Don't suffer alone; call us if you need help."
