WI members beating the carrier bag charge

Members of Fulshaw WI wanted to find a novel way to mark the 100 year anniversary of the formation of their national organisation. They also wanted their actions to be useful and so decided to make 100 shopping bags from re-cycled material which could then be used instead of plastic carrier bags.

Amanda Stevens, Vice President Fulshaw WI, explained "This idea felt even more appropriate in the light of the recent charge introduced for plastic bags."

The first 50 bags were delivered to Wilmslow Parish's food bank, Food Friend, which is run by St Bartholomew's - so they could be distributed to the clients using the service.
