Wilmslow Decorative & Fine Arts Society will kick off their new season of lectures next week with a talk about Theatrical Personalities by Frances Hughes.

After 38 years in education, Frances lectured at the Theatre Museum in Covent Garden, and the London Centre for Theatre Studies. She is now the tour guide at the Garrick Club as well as Chair of the Irving Society and Chair of the Henry Irving Foundation.

The talk, to be held at Wilmslow Parish Hall on Tuesday 8th September at 7.30pm, will explore the worlds of the 18th and 19th century British theatre through the lives of seven actors from David Garrick to Henry Irving.

Wilmslow DFAS meet on the second Tuesday of the month at Wilmslow Parish Hall where they hold illustrated lectures on a wide range of topics given by world experts. During the year they also visit places of interest, have study days and overseas "cultural tours".

Caroline Morgan explained "About 120 members meet each month and it is a interesting and inclusive group of local people. The Society in Wilmslow has been established for 25 years with us celebrating our silver anniversary last September. We also go on day trips all over the country and have all day study days to which all are welcome."

Membership is £41 per year which covers 10 lectures on all sorts of subjects and a good glass of wine at the close. Guest visitors are always very welcome for just £7 per lecture or £1 for students, phone Pat on 0161 427 6421 in advance.

Caroline added "The group is not high brow or at all exclusive. I really mean all are welcome and it is for all ages for those who would like an hour long interesting talk illustrated with slides followed by a glass of wine."
