Wilmslow is brimming with art

This year's Wilmslow Art Trail kicks off tomorrow and runs throughout the weekend with 40 local artists showcasing their work in 22 venues across the town.

Wilmslow Business Group held a drinks reception at St Bartholomew's Church this evening to launch the 2015 Art Trail, offering guests the opportunity to meet the participating artists and view original pieces of their work in an exciting postcard art display.

In addition to the displays in local shops, bars, restaurants and churches, each participating artist, along with the Chancellor of the Exchequer MP George Osborne, has generously donated a piece of original work in postcard form. These will be available to view and buy for £20 each from Castletons Accountants on Kennerleys Lane, with all the proceeds going to the East Cheshire Hospice.

Georgie Johnson, of Wilmslow Business Group, said "We are totally delighted so many more artists are participating. What is great is that people come in to see the art but also come into town, wander round and visit the businesses."

Julie Niven, of Wilmslow Business Group, added "It feels like the town is alive with art."

Karyn Johnson, Head of Marketing Communications at East Cheshire Hospice, commented "It is great to be part of the cultural life of Wilmslow. The money we raise from the sale of the postcards will help fund our art therapy project which helps patients come to terms with their diagnosis."

The artists, who this year include painters, silversmiths, furniture makers, jewellers, ceramicists, bookbinders, digital artists and embroiderers, will be on hand during the 3-day art extravaganza to talk about their work.

Furniture maker and Wilmslow Art Trail founder, Garry Olson said "Having been involved last year it is really great tosee Wilmslow Business Group adopt the idea and run with it.

"In just two years it seems an established part of the calendar for Wilmslow and we're really thrilled about the prospects for the future."

Wilmslow Business Group has produced an Art Trail Map, which is available here, and a booklet containing details on each artist which can be collected from many retailers and cafes in the town. The trail will allow visitors to plan their visit and walk or even cycle the route, enjoying refreshments along the way.

There are some additional activities taking place across the weekend including a book folding at The Library, Willow Weaving at The Methodist Church and Photography at Morley Green Social Club. Full details can be found in our events calendar.
