Green-fingered Brownies dig deep at community cafe

Wilmslow 3rd Brownies have been busy completing their gardening badge with a little help from Incredible Edible.

Earlams Community Cafe in Styal cleared a space which they kindly offered for the Brownies to use this summer, so on Wednesday, 13th May, they planted courgettes, cucumbers, peas, beans, nasturtiums, lettuces, broccoli and a butternut squash.

The girls also added some herbs to the pallet which had been painted by the Brownies.

Helen Yates of Incredible Edible said "It was a real pleasure to work with the Brownies who already had a very good idea about how to manage a garden and grow crops. It's especially rewarding doing these kind of activities, where different groups work together.

"We plan to go back later in the year to harvest some of the crops for a cookery activity and look forward to seeing the crops used in the cafe at Earlams."

The area which the girls have planted is in the outdoor seating space at the side of Earlams and will be supporting Styal In Bloom when the judges do their tour later this summer.

Excellent. Well done. A true "common unity" project.
