Take aim for the Robin Hood Olympics

Robin Hood

Calling all Merry Men – and women! Robin Hood and his brave band will be sweeping into Wilmslow for target practice as Sherwood Forest springs to life in Wilmslow Parish Hall!

Britain's legendary hero will host a community fun day where children of all ages can experience the magic of the medieval world, meet the famous heroes of the Greenwood and take part in a wealth of crafts and activities from 1.30pm to 4.30pm on Sunday 24th April.

Following on from the hugely successful Camelot Day of 2015, Wilmslow Parish Church in association with Wilmslow High School's Get Set for Community Action Group are planning a lavish recreation of Olde Englande to raise awareness of the forthcoming Rio Olympics.

The Hall will be transformed into the city of Nottingham complete with castle, forest and peasant village where children can watch Marion win the Gold, help Robin overcome the evil Sheriff of Nottingham and take part in numerous crafts and activities while learning all about Olympic values.

Nell Mountford explains "Visitors should allow at least an hour for their visit which will include decorating delicious biscuits in Friar Tuck's woodland kitchen, making little merry men, hair braiding with Marion and watching a Punch and Judy show in the peasant village.

"And for all budding merry men there will be an opportunity to try a spot of 'soft archery' in Sherwood Forest followed by a trip to Nottingham castle to make jewelled goblets or shields. But beware, the Sheriff and his wicked henchman, Guy of Gisborne are never far away – they've hidden the villager's gold deep beneath the castle. Intrepid souls may want to brave the spooky 10 yard dash through Nottingham's dungeons to rescue it!

"Once they have completed these challenges it will be time to create a golden arrow and be admitted into Robin's band of fearless heroes and heroines!"

All proceeds will go to Food Friend, the local charity which gives a helping hand to struggling families.

Olivia King, 13, who is helping to organise the event with her High School team said, "This is our opportunity to provide a fantastic day out for local families while reinforcing the important values of respect, friendship and compassion which lie at the heart of the Olympics and, of course, the very best communities."

Tickets are bookable in advance and cost £1.50 each or £6 per family. All children under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult.

All activities are included in the price and the only extra cost will be for medieval cakes and drinks, served up in the Caste Café.

You can book tickets online at www.wilmslowparish.co.uk/robinhood or from St. Bartholomew's Parish Church or Wilmslow Parish Office (mornings).

Doesn't " Guy of Guisborne " sound very much like " George Osborne " ?
