Lindow children enjoy the experience of a lifetime

In May, local MP and Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Rt. Hon. George Osborne visited Lindow Community Primary School to launch new classroom technology.

While speaking to the children he extended an invitation for some of them to visit him at his home in Westminster.

This week 10 children from Year 6, accompanied by Headteacher Darren Morgan and three assistants, took up that invitation and travelled to London. After a tour of the Houses of Parliament, the party visited Downing Street where the Chancellor hosted a tour of his home in Number 11, showing the children his garden, his office, the cabinet meeting room in Number 10 and introducing them to Larry the Downing Street cat!

Mr Osborne spent half an hour with the children, answering their questions and giving them an insight into the tranquillity of his home away from the bustle of the House of Commons. The obvious pleasure the Chancellor showed in spending time with the children will long live in the memory.

Afterwards the children posed for photos outside Number 11 and Number 10 perhaps dreaming that one day it might be their home.

Headteacher Darren Morgan said "It was a wonderful experience for myself and the children to visit London. We started by touring Westminster, including bumping into Lord Sugar.

"Undoubtedly, the highlight of the day was the personalised tour of 11 Downing Street by Mr Osborne himself. Unfortunately children see so much of the ugly side of politics and politicians, however, Mr Osborne demonstrated a great level of grace and charm, he took time to answer any questions and even took us into the cabinet office.

"We all left with a very positive impression of Mr Osborne. The children gained memories that will last them a long time."
