Cricket: Poor batting performance leaves Lindow bottom of table

Lindow 1's travelled to Bollington in search of their first victory of the season. Skipper Walker won the toss and elected to bat on what looked like a hard track with the sun beating down. The home sides bowlers kept things tight, with some very good fielding also. Lindow never got going and with only Joe Booth (23) and Adam Bull (22) showing some defiance a modest total of 128 was set.

Bollington's batsmen came out playing the ball confidently and knocked off the first half of the total before the first wicket fell. Some excellent seam bowling from Henry Grover and Scott Howarth saw another 3 wickets fall, giving Lindow some hope. The middle order rallied and the total started to get nearer. Ramsden picked up a couple more wickets, however it was too late as the home side knocked off the total with 4 wickets to spare. Another poor batting performance leaves Lindow bottom of Division 1 with some serious work to do if they want to retain their place in the top division.

Lindow 2nd XI got the better of their top of the table clash with Bollington but narrowly missed out on claiming maximum points as the visitors, well short of the total of 218 posted by the home team, hung on for a draw. With men crowded around the bat, and with Bollington eight men down, Lindow couldn't quite take the two wickets needed for outright victory despite the valiant efforts of Liam Howarth who took 4-38.

The day belonged to Ian Park, who scored a flawless 137 n.o. as Lindow set Bollington a challenging 219 to win. Coming in at number 3, Park was soon settled in, keeping the scoreboard ticking over before letting loose with a series of searing drives and pulls that demoralised the visitor's attack. It was a truly outstanding innings that dominated the match and ultimately enabled Lindow to remain at the top of the league table.
