Rebecca Adlington helps TV star prepare to take the plunge

Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington put Waterloo Road star Jason Done through his paces in Royles' Endless Training Pool, in preparation for this year's Great Manchester Swim.

Rebecca, who scooped two gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, has been helping Jason get ready to raise funds for Royal Manchester Children's Hospital Charity (RMCH Charity).

Jason who is currently filming a two-part series of Lewis alongside actor Kevin Whately has never taken on the challenge of an open water swim before. He picked up some tips from Rebecca on swimming technique at Royles' training pool on Grove Street to kick start his training programme ahead of the summer challenge.

Jason said "I'm really excited about taking on the Great Manchester Swim for Royal Manchester Children's Hospital Charity. This will be my first swimming challenge but after the session at Royles I'm feeling much more confident that I can complete the race in a good time.

"I've been a patron of RMCH Charity for a number of years and I hope that others will take the plunge with me in July to support this wonderful cause as together we could make a big difference to thousands of children."

Rebecca added "I'm really pleased to be able to help Jason get ready for the Great Manchester Swim. It's a really fun challenge and I admire anyone who is planning to take part this year. The event really is suitable for swimmers of all abilities."

Andrew Royle, Managing Director of Royles said "When asked if we could help out we naturally offered the use of our Endless Training Pool and expertise of our coach Nick to help Jason with his swimming preparation.

"Having Rebecca in-store created a buzz around the building, she is undoubtedly a legend in British Swimming and such a genuinely nice person and Jason surprised us all with his swimming, perhaps he's not the amateur he makes out."

Andrew added "We are looking forward to welcoming Jason back to continue a series of 1-2-1 sessions to build and improve his swimming in the coming weeks.

"Lessons are available for swimmers of all abilities on a 1-2-1 basis either individually or as part of a Swimming Improvement Course. We use a state of the art Elite Endless pool combined with underwater camera and video capture software to analyse swimming technique, allowing swimmers to see what they are doing and how to improve it."

Royal Manchester Children's Hospital Charity raises funds to ensure continued excellence in treatment, care and research at the hospital – improving the lives of thousands of children each year across the North West and beyond.

The hospital is an official partner of The Great Manchester Swim which takes place at Salford Quays on Saturday 19th of July, with competitors taking on a unique 1 mile dock to dock course in open water.

Donations to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital Charity can be made online or n-store at Royles on Knutsford Road.
