Wilmslow Royal British Legion held their annual charity crown green bowling event on Sunday, 18th May, which raised over £700 for children's cancer charity.

For the third year they hosted the Joe Broadhurst Charity Pairs Crown Green Bowling Competition which raises funds for Clic Sargent.

Mark Sandham, from Wilmslow Royal British Legion, said " It was a great days bowling and the weather was fantastic. The event went really well. I would like to thank all players and spectators who made the day very worthwhile. It was only the third time we had opened the competition up as a one-day pairs event and one I'm sure will be repeated.

"The standard of bowling was very high. Last year we raised £1,105 and this year we raised over £700 all of which is to be donated to CLIC Sargent, a children's cancer charity."

Mark continued "Joe Broadhurst was a life long member of the club, a man that would always go out of his way to help others. Sadly Joe passed away so the club decided to run a competition in his name. At the same time Robert West a member of club heard the most devastating words that all parents dread, you're daughter has cancer. Robert and his family were helped throughout their ordeal by Clic Sargent so a decision was taken to run a charity competition where all profits from the competition would go to this very worthwhile charity."

The winners were Andy Murray and Jack Holland who beat local bowlers, father and son team Chris Dooley and Paul Dooley.
