Brave Millie joins sponsored walk to help her friends

Courageous Millie Williams, who underwent seven operations on her legs in the first ten months of her life, is taking part in a six-mile sponsored dog walk.

Her owner Judith Williams noticed when the little Cairn-Noodle was just 5 months old that she was reluctant to jump up and that she often hopped on her hind limbs like a rabbit when running. Millie had bilateral laterally luxating patella which meant that her knee caps dislocated sideways and she struggled to walk, jump up or stand for any length of time. The condition was obviously painful for her and hindered her to such an extent that she couldn't do the things that normal puppies do.

In October last year Millie underwent her first surgery which corrected the deformity of her left leg. She bounced back so quickly from the operation that just 4 weeks later surgery was performed on her right leg.

Now, after five months of rest she has been loving her daily walks and is ready to help raise money to support her less fortunate friends at Wilmslow Animal Sanctuary by taking on the six mile walk.

The sponsored dog walk is the brain-child of Woodcroft veterinary nurse Gail Bagshaw-Wright, where Millie was treated. Gail is inviting all dogs and their owners to sign up for the walk which will take place on Sunday 11th May 2014 - to raise much needed funds for Wilmslow Animal Sanctuary.

The walk will start at 11am from the Ship Inn, Styal and take in some of the beautiful countryside that is on our doorstep, including the National Trust property itself at Styal.

Melanie Hay from Wilmslow Animal Sanctuary said "There is an option of two circular routes; a six mile or a shorter, three mile walk, both offering an ideal opportunity to enjoy being outdoors with your furry friend whilst supporting a local animal sanctuary that desperately needs funds to continue their work."

The six mile walk involves a stop off and refreshments at the sanctuary. Entry fees are £5 per adult, with concessions for seniors and children.
