Wilmslow Police search prison visitors in day of impact

As part of the Eastern area of Cheshire′s 'Day Of Impact′, Wilmslow police have undertaken an operation to deter travelling criminals, focusing upon the area of Styal prison.

Inspector Sue Mills, who heads up the Wilmslow Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said "The focus of the operation, in co-operation with the Ministry of Justice, is to disrupt criminality, focused upon the area around HMP Styal. Today we have searched a total of 60 visitors to the prison, and conducted vehicle checks. A car was seized by police and a number of road traffic offences were reported."

Inspector Mills continued "A vast majority of those searched were fully co-operative and welcomed the efforts of our officers in deterring crime."

The focused police activity across the area is part an operation set out to tackle emerging issues that affect the communities of East Cheshire.

Superintendent Luke McDonnell, who led today′s Day Of Impact said "We have co-ordinated this day of action in direct response to any emerging crime patterns and the issues that our communities tell us are important to them. Officers and PCSO′s have also been out problem-solving and addressing community issues, including the arrests of wanted persons, executing drug warrants, and high visibility policing in areas of reported burglaries.

"This type of enforcement takes place every day in our towns and villages − the difference today is that the policing activity is more visible and we encourage members of our community to engage with officers who are out and about to discuss any issues that impact their quality of life. We will take action and we will do all we can to rid our towns and villages of the blight that crime and antisocial behaviour has on our community.

"Information from members of the public is vital in the fight against crime and we would urge anyone with any information in relation to suspected criminal activity to get in touch."

Talk about an easy target! Surely there was something more relevant to our locality such as targeting local shoplifters or dumpers of rubbish or drivers using mobile phones.
I guess the prison gate staff had an easy day having their job done for them.
