Ned Yates announces closure

Ned Yates in Wilmslow

The owners of Ned Yates have decided to close the garden centre on Moor Lane to focus efforts on their landscaping business.

Owner and Director, Trevor Jacques, and son, Jon Jacques, are restructuring the business to concentrate on managing the sustained growth of Jacques Landscapes which will continue to operate from the Moor Lane site.

Both Ned Yates Garden Centre and the Seedhouse Restaurant will cease trading in late Spring and, in preparation for the closure, the garden centre will be staging a stock clearance with special offers on all products.

The family run garden design, construction and maintenance company, which currently employs over thirty horticultural and landscaping experts, has seen a significant increase in demand from both domestic and commercial customers. As a result, Jacques Landscapes will expand its business offering and employ an additional six staff.

Trevor Jacques said "The landscaping side of our business is growing substantially and we are widely acknowledged as one of the leading providers in the North West. There is the need and desire to expand this offering whilst continuing to consistently deliver work of the highest standard, for which we are renowned. Therefore we have made the difficult decision to close Ned Yates Garden Centre."

He added "We want to thank all the loyal customers and friends who have visited us over the years. We will continue to offer horticultural advice and expertise as part of the Jacques Landscapes service."

Ned Yates was established in 1965 as 'Ned Yates Walk Around Nurseries and Garden Store' and has occupied the same site on Moor Lane since.

We spoke to a staff member at the weekend who said that initially it will be used for landscaping storage and then sold to developers...

Jacques Landscaping already has adequate storage on site, so expect the Garden Centre site to be sold for housing development asap. to fund landscaping business expansion.

I was also told by a member of staff that the land would be used for housing.

Another development in green belt? Must get my name down as the view of the potential new neighbours will be excellent.

Its as if its all part of a pre arranged plan ?? surely not ..???. Merely an unfortunate coincidence??, a consequence of unfortunate events ???, to allow new foundation stones to be put down fairly quickly.. ... l'm sure this isn't about the money ( ouch.. just bit my tongue again !), It may be just the cynic in me... but following on from these events CEC may as well build / incorporate their much wanted Wilmslow Travellers facility in with the new housing stock proposed and have done with it !!!

@ Nick Jones.. by curios co-incidence the protracted application for a "single" gypsy caravan site is not much more than 200 metres from this place.

It doesn't surprise me at all, that with the housing shortage and thus the eagerness to make vast profits, it means that this is the future for any land which becomes available. The state and local government must take account of the existing road's ability to cope with a new residential project. That section of Moor Lane is unsuitable as an access road to a large housing developement. It is not wide enough, has no pavements and is restricted by the number of cars already parking along the road. Next time you drive down Moor Lane or Cumber Lane see how many times you are stopped waiting for traffic coming the opposite way.
