M&S to open in Wilmslow

Marks and Spencer will be opening a food store in Wilmslow towards the end of the year.

M&S Simply Food will be located at the BP petrol station on Alderley Road and opening sometime in November.

BP has recently taken over the site from the BP dealer and it will become a BP company owned site offering a wide range of goods, hot and cold drinks and the BP Wild Bean café offer.

A BP spokesperson said "The re development will cost over £1million - the current site will be knocked down and a new site built. Work usually takes around three months to compete. All this is obviously subject to planning permission from the local district council.

"The store, which will open in November, will offer motorists the chance to fill up their shopping baskets at the same time as they fill up with fuel. It is likely to be open 24/7 and provide customers with a selected range of Marks & Spencer's high quality fresh, innovative food ranges.

"There are between 600 and 800 products available including ready meals, fresh produce, sandwiches, wine, flowers and groceries alongside BP's Wild Bean Café, multi-branded impulse and fuel offers."

The BP partnership with M&S Simply Food was established in 2005 when eight sites were opened, there are now over 160.

At least 20 new jobs will be created.

It must be an April Fool. Two junctions either end and parking on the slip road in front off it- CEC would never give permission - or would they?

All part of Cheshire East's much vaunted "employment led growth" strategy to justify house and commercial development on Wilmslow's Green Belt fields!

To confirm, this is not an April Fools joke. It is true.

I only posted one fake story today about the celebrity tours but people have been questioning other articles on both wilmslow.co.uk and alderleyedge.com - which to be honest when writing them I did think some readers would think it was an April Fools.

I would have been happy to read that this was an April fools!
I am really against these stupid places, where you can stop for petrol and get your groceries.
Just a menace to the motorist, when people park by a pump and then take forever inside.
Seriously, bin this idea, id rather see it used for travellers to camp on....of which they are back again on Earl Road!!-----Tarmac your drive Sir?

There are several of these near my parents in Surrey. They are just like a petrol station with a bit bigger shop that sells a small range of M&S food. Often the extra food space is obtained by removing old car mechanical washes that have now fallen out of favor.

These shops are not bursting with trade nor have I ever seen them causing over spill parking issues. And they are in areas where parking is much more of a problem than here.

Still, other petrol stations are also available if this concept really offends you but seriously people, what is all the fuss about?

This really would have been beyond even the most imaginative April Fooler. Plenty of extra traffic to run down the few kids who can actually walk to and from school.(Remembering that you have to drive the kids to school to keep them safe from all the other people driving their kids to school). There is no proper footpath along the site and multiple traffic choices at either end. It is only used for its present purpose because it has been there so long. Unfortunately we cannot afford to lose this site as a fuel retailer as that would leave just the one and we know how the oil business loves a monopoly!

Currently they are selling Diesel for £139.9, the other day, in Fort William, I paid £132.7. They also have the most user-unfriendly pump layout in the area.
