A unique breed of dog store opened in Wilmslow last night, one which is sure to get local tails wagging.
Barkers, a brand new shop exclusively for dogs, now occupies the former Blockbusters store on Alderley Road and is a must-visit shopping destination for dogs and their well-behaved owners.
The shop is an all-round sensory sensation for local canines and is managed by Claire Phillips, who has seven years' experience working with dogs and is currently on the hunt for two new Barkers of her own – she has in mind an English bulldog called Henry and a French bulldog called Louie!
"The store has been designed exclusively for dogs," explains Claire. "Everyone involved in the creation of Barkers are dog lovers, and this is reflected in everything; from the way the shop looks and feels to the products we sell and the services we provide.
"There are some really exciting sensory areas of the shop for dogs to interact with, from intriguing smells to eye-catching toys, and we can't wait to meet Wilmslow's canine community."
Barkers sells a wide spectrum of dog food, chosen because of its well-balanced nutrients, organically sourced meat and great taste. The Barkers team are on hand to advise owners on the right diet for each dog, dependent on age, size and breed.
There is also a unique range of doggie accessories, such as designer leather leashes, collars made from recycled materials and British-made bandanas helping them to look their best, feel their best and have the best playtime with their owner.
It is widely known that dogs spend at least a third of their lives asleep. Barkers is the first store to offer its very own made-to-order bedding service for dogs, alongside new ranges such as rattan beds with coordinating cushions and luxurious cosy snuggle snacks.
Finally, Barkers features a top-of-the-range 360 degree glass grooming spa, offering a variety of services such as trimming, nail clipping and treatments such as Reiki. Organic, holistic and natural shampoos, conditioners and scented spritzers help make sure that Wilmslow's dogs will look good and feel great.
Claire explained: "We want dogs to walk away from Barkers looking, smelling and feeling fantastic, having had a truly unique experience.
"We believe in only the best for our dogs, from bedding and toys, to food and medicine, and want to stock everything they will need in their life to relax and have fun with their owners."
But as well as a unique product and services offering, Barkers also features an eye-catching community board which showcases local walks, dog-friendly destinations, canine events and anything else which may be of interest to owners.
Claire added: "Barkers isn't just a great store for dogs, we want it to become a real hub for the dog-owning community. Whether that's just owners dropping by for a chat while their pet has a sniff around the store, or seeking more thorough advice on things like health, food, behaviour, hopefully they'll feel Barkers is an all-round dream destination for their dogs."
