Keep your bike secure and lock thieves out

Met bike marking

A free bike marking event has been organised by Wilmslow Neighbourhood Police Unit to help local residents protect their bikes from opportunistic thieves.

Inspector Sue Mills said "Over the last two months we have seen an increase in shed and garage break-ins across the area and numerous bikes have been stolen as a result. In very few cases have those reporting these thefts been able to tell us in detail about their bike. In addition, almost no one has had their bike marked with a security tag or other means of identifying it as theirs."

As a result a Bike Marking event has been organised for Saturday 15th February which will be based at two locations. The first will be at 12 noon till 2pm at Royles Cycling Store on Knutsford Road, Wilmslow and the second will be from 2pm till 4pm at The Carrs Car Park on Cliff Road, Wilmslow.

Local residents are invited to go along with their bikes and the police will mark them up with a security code and record the details. The security marking acts as a visible deterrent to bike thieves who will be arrested if they are caught in possession of a registered bike.

Inspector Mills added "This service is free of charge and may make all the the difference if your bike is ever stolen."
