£70,000 revamp for children's play area

Work is currently underway at Meriton Road Park, Handforth to significantly improve the facilities.

The children's play area is closed whilst an extensive revamp, costing £70,000, is completed.

The work, which is being carried out by Cheshire East Council, is due to be finished by the end of February.

Councillor David Topping, Cheshire East Council Cabinet member in charge of environment, said: "The play area is currently closed as work gets under way as part of this exciting £70,000 scheme.

"The aim is to greatly improve the facilities for imaginative and dynamic play and make them more accessible to a greater range of children, including youngsters with disabilities. Previously the play area was for children aged four to eight but the improvements will extend this to youngsters aged from two to 13.

"The work will also include seating, a picnic area and new pathways.

"A consultation has been taking place giving local children and parents the chance to pick which play equipment they most want to see in the scheme and I can tell you that the play area will definitely include a zip wire and a basket swing – as they have proved the most popular choices!

"I would like to thank the Friends of Meriton Road Park and the local ward members Councillors Barry Burkhill and Dennis Mahon for their tremendous support for this Cheshire East Council project and helping to make this a success."
