Plans for 20 homes in Green Belt to replace former care home

Plans have been submitted to build 20 homes within the Green Belt, on the site of a former care home.

Morris Homes North Ltd have applied for full planning permission for a residential development consisting of two storey 2, 4 and 5 bedroom detached and mews style dwellings off Sagars Road in Handforth.

The 1.07 hectare site was previously occupied by Knowle House, a private care home. This was demolished in 1996 following an arson attack and the site has been vacant since.

A public consultation was carried out, with over 180 leaflets distributed to neighbouring properties and councillors plus meetings were held Handforth Parish Council and Cheshire East Council to discuss the draft proposals.

As a result of comments received a number of changes have been made to the plans including the relocation of some properties and parking places to improve outlooks and reduce the overshadowing of gardens. The overall density of the scheme has been reduced, an informal footpath link to open space has been retained along with some trees and hedges to retain privacy.

The planning application can be viewed on Cheshire East Council's website by searching for planning reference 13/3883M.

The last date for submitting comments is 30th October and a decision is expected by 13th December.
