Derelict pub getting a makeover

A brewery has confirmed they plan to invest in and refurbish a dilapidated pub which has become an eyesore for local residents.

Several months ago the manager of the Wilmslow Tavern on Dean Row left and since then the site has become overgrown with weeds, fallen into a state of disrepair and the final straw came when the windows were boarded up earlier this month.

Local residents decided to address the situation by writing to The Emerson Group, who own the property, and Marstons Brewery, the company who leases the property.

The brewery has responded to the residents concerns and confirmed that the site will not only be cleared up but they plan to invest in a complete refurbishment of the pub.

A Marston's spokesperson said: "We took back control of the Wilmslow Tavern in late July after concerns that it wasn't being run in the correct manner. We have had to address a number of challenges operationally, which have unfortunately resulted in delaying the clean-up of the pub.

"We are hoping to have the pub up and running in the next two weeks and in the autumn we will be installing a new permanent tenant. The pub itself will be undergoing refurbishments both inside and outside to bring it completely up-to-date and make it once again a place where the whole community can come to enjoy food and drinks."
